The majority of pupils at Chatten Free School will be focusing on functional communication as a priority,  Where reading is appropriate it is likely that a focus on learning important words such as their name, address or school name will be more relevant.  

Despite this, there will be occasions where some pupils reach a point where phonics is relevant.

On these occasions the school will use the letters and sounds curriculum
