Qualifications

561255f85185d.jpgAt Chatten Free School we provide an individualised skills based curriculum targeted toward helping our pupils thrive in the real world.

For this reason it may not be useful for many of our pupils to access typical qualifications and accredited courses.  However, we do hope to provide opportunities for older pupils to gain a qualification when it is attainable and useful to them.

As with all other aspects of Chatten, choosing to access a qualification will be done on a pupil by pupil basis.  It is important to note that a course leading to a qualification at Chatten should complement the pupils programme.

With the above in mind we will, when appropriate access some of the programmes/courses provided by ASDAN.  ASDAN provides several courses and programmes designed for pupils with SEND.  Many of these are portfolio based and can be obtained via an ‘experiential’ route.

Examples of ASDAN courses that pupils may access include.

Personal progress

This qualification can also be accessed from entry level 1 to level 2.  It comprises a list of possible chosen modules including; employment, independent living, good health and community inclusion.

Personal and Social Development (PSD)

This qualification is portfolio based and can be access from entry level 1 to level 2 and is focused on supporting young people to becoming. “confident individuals who are physically, emotionally and socially healthy, being responsible citizens who make a positive contribution to society and embrace change, managing risk together with their own well-being”

Employability

We hope that with support some of our pupils will be able to access employment.  For those pupils who have the pre-requisite skills ASDAN provides an ‘employability’ certificate.

For the entry level 2 qualification the aim is:

“To help learners develop the skills needed to become successful employees. The primary purpose of this qualification is to support them in overcoming barriers to entering work. It is primarily intended for young people and adults who are not yet ready for employment but for whom a job is a realistic aim within a reasonable timescale. It may also suit those experiencing the workplace for the first time that need to develop employability skills”

Further to the qualification above ASDAN also provide a number of other programmes based around, personal development and independence skills which will be appropriate for some of our older pupils.
